Bull Fire Update:  8am Wednesday, August 4, 2010 Size: 16,442 acres
Containment:  96 Percent
Resources:  Total Personnel: 242

Fire Status:  Monday, firefighters focused on two areas of the fire along the east and west flanks.  The focus of today’s efforts will be to continue to mop up the east flank, approximately 1 and ½ miles south-west of Cannell Meadow, where some smokes have remained.  Firefighters on both the east and west flanks are working in extremely rugged, steep, rocky, and in some cases inaccessible terrain.  Patrol of the firelines around the remainder of the fire will occur to watch for any additional hot spots.   MORE: http://bit.ly/anu0Jd 

Cause: Human Caused, Under Investigation

Special Note:  A task force consisting of Law Enforcement Officers from the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Kern County Fire Department, and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office was formed to investigate the Bull Fire. The task force is continuously working, following up on multiple reports from local citizens. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Anyone with information pertaining to the start of the Bull Fire is encouraged to call the Kern County Fire Department Tip Line, toll free at (877) 347-3847). California Interagency Incident Management Team 4 will transition management of the Bull Fire back to the Sequoia National Forest tomorrow, August 3.

Closure Update:  The Mountain Highway 99 has reopened as of 9:00 a.m. Monday, August 2 and the area closure has been lifted.  None of the campgrounds in the fire area received any fire damage during the fire.  Those campgrounds will be reopened on Thursday, August 5, once water testing has been completed.

BULL FIRE INTERAGENCY NEWS RELEASE

On Monday July 26th 2010 at approximately 1:45 P.M., the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Kern County Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire in the area of Burlando Road, west of the Kern River in Kernville.

Upon arrival crews were faced with a developing fire in grass and heavy vegetation in Bull Run Creek. The fire is an estimated 2000 acres. There are approximately 500 personnel on scene with many more en-route. Approximately 200 firefighters are battling the fire on ground with assistance from 7 water dropping helicopters and 7 air tankers.

There are several structures threatened by the fire on both sides of the Kern River. Residence in the community of Riverkern and residents along Burma Rd off of Burlando Road are being evacuated as well as Camp Owens. There are structural protection groups assigned to these areas.
There are no reported injuries.

Precautionary evacuation of Headquarters Campground and all helicopters are now on structure protection in Kernville.

Fire has now crossed the county line into Tulare County.

Fire has crossed the Kern River on the east side.

 Owens Peak Complex Fire Incident

6-20-2010 9am: the South Central Sierra Interagency Incident Management Team
took command of 2 fires burning on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management,
California Desert District.  The 2 fires are named the Sand 2 Fire and the Indian Fire.  
Due to the close proximity of the 2 fires, they are being managed as one incident
called the Owens Peak Complex.

April Karlberg's Smokey skies out behind the volcano mountain in Ridgecrest.
 The Indians Fire is burning in wilderness area under the jurisdiction of BLM
and is approximately 5 miles west of Hwy 14 and Indian Hills Rd, west of Inyokern.
The fire is an estimated 1000 acres and crews are actively engaged in firefighting.
Many resources from the Bodfish Fire are being reassigned to this incident,
including the management team. Further information and updates will be available
tomorrow when the team arrives and the information point is set up.
