ACTION ~ Semi-Primitive Roaded and Roadless Backcountry Recreation Designation - - Chris Horgan, Stewards of the Sequoia, has requested that KRVR provide a resolution supporting congressional legislation to establish a Semi-Primitive Roaded and Roadless Backcounty Recreation Designation, as proposed by Advocates for Access to Public Lands. Attached is a copy of the proposed resolution, as well as a list of those organizations providing resolutions of support. - Valerie Cassity, Sequoia Forestkeeper, has requested that before deciding the issue, you look at the proposed wilderness areas and the reasoning behind them. ANNOUNCEMENTS лллл CERT Evening Classes The KRV Community Emergency Response Team will be teaching the CERT classes in the evenings starting April 16th. The classes run from 6:30 to 9:00 pm on Mondays & Fridays, April 16, 20, 23, 27, 30 and May 4, 7, and 11th. The free classes will be held at the First Baptist Church, 3701 Shure St., Lake Isabella. There is however, a $20 charge for the CERT Manuel. Call either Tom Klein at 760-379-2797 or Gloria Wellman at 760-378-2059 to register.
Small Business Workshop Mojave Desert-Mountain RC&D presents a workshop on developing a business plan and will highlight other resources to assist in starting and/or growing your business. Wednesday May 9th, 8:00 am to Noon, Senior Center, Lake Isabella. Registration is $20 which includes breakfast ($30 at the door). Board of Trade Directors in KRV On Wednesday, May 9th, the Kern County Board of Trade will conduct their all day quarterly Directors meeting in the Kern River Valley. The formal meeting will include a luncheon at the Lodge at Painted Rock. Luncheon seating is limited so reservations are required. After a tour of the KRV, the day will conclude with a social mixer and mini tourism trade show commencing at 5:15 pm at the Senior Center in Lake Isabella, to which all are invited. KRV Geology by a World Renowned Expert Sequoia ForestKeeper invites you to a free presentation by Cal Tech Professor of Geology Jason Saleeby on Wednesday, May 16, at 6:00 p.m. at the Kernville Chamber of Commerce. Professor Saleeby, who has been conducting studies on Kern Valley geology for over 20 years, would like to share some of his findings in an easy-to-understand format that will help Kern Valley residents understand the geologic marvels that are all around them, as well as the geologic issues surrounding the Lake Isabella Dam.
SBC “State of the Sierra” Conference The Sierra Business Council will hold a regional “State of the Sierra” conference on Tuesday, July 10th at the Senior Center (to be confirmed) in Lake Isabella. It will run from 1to 5 pm, immediately followed by a networking event with drinks and appetizers.
SBC will soon publish the “State of the Sierra” report. It will build on the previously published “Wealth Index”, to include investment opportunities, focusing on a sustainable future for the Sierra Nevada. The trends and data presented these documents, which are critical to ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future, will be shared and discussed at the Conference.
