5-30-08 Kern River Courier 'Going Native' Column - 2008/06/05 11:29 Marya Miller’s May 30th, 2008 Going Native column was titled “Save water and money this year watering your plants” posted below.

In her column, Marya mentioned the National Wildlife Federation. http://www.nwf.org/

The National Wildlife magazine article Marya mentioned “10 Steps to Drought-Resistant Gardening” can be found at
http://www.nwf.org/nationalwildlife/article.cfm?issueID=122&articleID=1608

IMPORTANT FOR KRV RESIDENTS TO KNOW:
DRIP IRRIGATION
KILLS MOST NATIVES!

Most drought tolerant plants do not like wet feet nor the way drip irrigation delivers the water (some trees have root systems that are mostly horizontal, while drip irrigation delivers the water vertically).
