Kern Valley FFA has a banner year at the Kern County Fair

We are back from another great year at the Kern County Fair. This year was full of fun and learning. We would like to thank everyone who supported Kern Valley at the fair this year: the kids that put so much time and effort into your projects; the parents who supported the program and also the buyers and sponsors. Without you, none of this would be possible.

A complete list of fair results will be submitted for next week’s paper. However some of the highlights for the 2011 Kern County Fair are:

Champion Round Robin Showman - Small Animal Division- Melani Fletcher

Champion Outdoor Scene/Landscape - Kern Valley FFA

Theme Award Winner Floriculture - Kern Valley FFA

Champion Yearling Breeding Ewe - Sydney Scott

Reserve Champion Pen of 6 Market Lambs - Kern Valley FFA

Reserve Champion Pen of 3 Market Steers - Kern Valley FFA (exhibited by Cody Sheckells, Austin Wells and Amber Snyder)

Champion FFA Dairy Showmanship - Cole Frenes

Reserve Champion Pen of 3 Dairy Heifers - Kern Valley FFA (exhibited by Cole Frenes, Cicily Sadler and Kailey Villa)

Champion Sr. Rabbit Showmanship - Melani Fletcher

Reserve Champion Synchronized Rabbit Showmanship - Melani Fletcher, Carla Morrison and Katelyn Wallace

Champion Handicapped Sheep Showmanship - Maggie Stroud

Reserve Champion Handicapped Swine Showmanship - Destinee Ochoa

“The success this year definitely reflects the awesome team effort that Kern Valley FFA members, parents and the community put forth,” commented FFA Advisor Emily Keverline. “We would not be able to do this activity without each one of them.” FFA Members from every barn were equally excited about the performance this year. “One thing that was really exciting in the sheep barn this year was the fact that our champion ewe was born and raised on the school farm,” said Senior FFA member Sydney Scot. “Our reserve champion pen of six market lambs were also all homegrown.” Those two championships really reflected the effort of the entire agriculture program at the high school. The students in the Agriculture Science classes are responsible for all of the management of the school farm flock, which is where all of the ewes and lambs exhibited this year came from.

Again the Kern Valley FFA wants to send a big Thank You to the entire Kern River Valley for all of the support you have shown, at all of our endeavors from Kern County Fair to conventions, we appreciate it and are thankful to be part of a community like ours!

Hope to see everyone at the Homecoming game and Steak Fry this Friday night at KVHS! Good luck, Broncs!
